# 🔗 Influence Index A live map of intellectual influence across the garden — which works engage, respond to, or are influenced by which authors and works. ## How to record an influence On the note for the **later work** (the one doing the engaging — usually the book or article you're reading), add an inline field: ``` influenced-by:: [[Author]], [[Specific Work - Author]] ``` Two habits make it work well: 1. **Link both the author and the specific work** when you can. That way the note surfaces on *both* hub pages — search Heidegger and it appears; search *Being and Time* and it appears too. 2. Give every work an `author::` field: `author:: [[Author]]`. Then, on any author or work page, this one query lists everything pointing to it (it's already on the [[Heidegger]], [[Douglas Hedley]], and [[Being and Time - Heidegger]] pages): ``` LIST WHERE contains(influenced-by, this.file.link) ``` To add a new influenced work later, just drop the `influenced-by::` line into its note — it appears on the relevant hubs automatically. > [!note] Dataview queries run inside Obsidian, not on Obsidian Publish.
