A naive person becomes cynical when he encounters malevolence. Cynicism is an improvement from naivety, as it now protects itself from malevolence. Cynics are often not cynical enough of their own cynicism. Cynicism is a bridge between naivety and wisdom. That which is beyond cynicism is courageous trust.
