Now, so far, in the first session, I outlined three values. These are three ways of possibly organizing one's thinking and one's society. We should organize everything hierarchically. We could say human beings are free agents and should be treated as free agents and organize ourselves socially around the concept of liberty. Or we can take the concept of equality. The fundamental thing is the equality of all human beings, and any other value concept has to give way or be subordinate or work within a broadly equal framework. What should our top organizing value be? We have so far a three-way debate.
6 organizing questions:
1. Where do we get our ethics from?
2. How do we arrive at our knowledge (of ethics)?
3. Are ethical standards universal?
4. What is good?
